Tight Lines.

When I was a little girl,
I set off on a fishing outing with my brothers and remember
Hearing someone call after us "Tight Lines!!! Hope you have Tight Lines..."

I can also remember the day, many years (decades even) later,
when I actually understood
what that Tight Lines Fish Wish meant...

When your line is tight...

it means...

you've got a bite.

PS: Happy Birthday Ginga, I love you.

Yesterday It Rained

Yesterday it rained,
so we did this,

And this...

And then I did this...

And now I know why I shouldn't wonder why the kids always say,
"Mommy you get the piggy plate!" when they set the table.

Daddy always gets the farmer or the duck, sometimes the horse.
Nonie always gets the kitty cat.
Dec is always the dog.

Which, more often then not, leaves me with the pig.

Notice, there isn't a morsel left on it in the picture above.

Oink.

Shovel?

The other day when Nonie and Dame were running out of the house to shovel at the school, Nonie said she didn't want to go because she didn't have a shovel. (By the way, Mom: is our little red shovel at your house?).

I said, nonsense, you have a shovel!
I opened the kitchen closet, pulled out a fly swatter and handed it to her.

Delighted, Nonie has been using it to shovel with ever since.
In fact, she's out in the driveway right now - all dressed in pink and just swatting away at the ice with the boys.....

'Tis the Season....

'Tis the season....

when I take stock of what I have

been given.

And I think

Oh!

WOW!

(ALL FOR ME?)

THANKS!

***

It is also the time of year when I wrap the outside of Happy House in Christmas.
And that comes with its own set of Oh! WOW! moments.

Like, the other night I was on a step ladder hanging from the front tree where we've hung about 1,000 strands of white lights and 35 gold ball christmas ornaments.
I bent down the tippy top branch and hooked a gold ball to it. Yes! (I thought) I got a ball on the very top branch!!! (don't even ask me why this would be important to me. it just is).

Well, about 10 seconds later I heard the ball bounce off the roof of a neighbor's car - a good 30 yards down the road!!!

I'd launched that sucker right through the air and I nearly fell off the ladder with laughter because of it.

I mean, if anyone saw these antics they'd have me arrested - and the hubby would have dragged me inside telling me my decorating for the day was doneski.

Thank God this all happened in the cover of dark.

'Tis the Season.

Sashay

When the cousins kicked off their shoes,
and enthusiastically swung their hips from side to side
while walking the "runway"...
in one of the nicest hotels in all of Boston....

I laughed.

And, when the kids told the hotel staff (who were quite busy setting up for a fashion show),
that they were practicing for the fashion show...

I laughed harder.
(Yes, Connor is doing a high kick in that picture. BRAVO to the Auntie who taught him that!).

But, when Granny (unintentionally - or so she says... wink wink) sashayed down the center of their "runway"...

I cried
from laughing so hard.

Strike a pose Gran.

and happy house smells like syrup

Packing for the Vineyard.
More like, shuffling items from the Stowe bag to the Vineyard bag.

(Not a complaint. Trust me. That. Is. Not. A. Complaint.)

Never mind that I have a stash of my clothes and some for my offspring on-island.
The packing urge has hit - Vera (Bradley) is busting at her seams.

Only bright colors are allowed in the bag.
A new rule I made up this evening.

Also, I'm wondering if Finn will survive or if I should pawn him off on someone.
I've asked him if he'll be okay without me and he just flapped his finns.

(Does that mean yes or no?)

Also, I'm wondering why Happy House smells like syrup.
I arrived apres dinner and the smell is unmistakeably sweetened.

What happens around here when I leave this place???

The thick summer air smells sweet and sticky. And if you think sticky doesn't smell, you should come sample the air at Happy House. Free samples.

Smells like syrup.

(Not a complaint. Trust me.)

I'll Take Mine WITH Seeds. Please.

Where did seeded watermelons go?

It is now summer. Today. Finally.

Everyone knows that Summer & Watermelon go together like....

like...

Fine, I'll say it even though you were all thinking it:

Twigs & Berries.

(that was for all you brothers who DON'T read this blog).

Anyway. Why can't I find them?

Watermelons with seeds!
Seeded watermelons!

The seeds were always the best part.

If you find one, tell me.

I'm just a Stoweaway up here at GrannyCamp

but I do know a few wee ones I'd like to spit seeds with

(at).
